The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is not liquid

31.12.07 |

My payroll account is with Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and I am disappointed because most of their ATM machines are always offline and if not it doesn’t have cash. This December I observed that there are days wherein BPI ATM machines become solely exclusive to BPI clients. It means to me that BPI had closed their Megalink and Bancnet Networks in order to give way to their own Expressnet.

I am very disappointed with BPI because I have interpreted their actions as they are not liquid to further accommodate other bank clients. BPI is claiming that they are one of the most leading banks in the Philippines but honestly in my observation smaller banks than BPI had performed well in terms of ATM servicing this Christmas season.

In our office, my boss and my officemates didn’t like the services of BPI especially when it comes to credit card payments. They said it is a hassle for them to pay credit card bills starting when our company had transferred our payroll account to BPI from Standard Chartered. Aside from that, I also heard many complaints about the numerous out of cash ATM Machines of BPI in various locations.

This New Year, the BPI will make their Express Teller Machines exclusively only to BPI clients as there are announcements posted in almost all of their BPI ATM machines. I sincerely feel that they are doing this to prioritize their BPI clients. However, I bet that with their actions they will have millions of pesos of penalties from Megalink and Banknet Networks.

You should try asking for your credit card annual fee to be waived. First, you will be on hold for like thirty minutes. And then, they will transfer you to a snooty phone banker who would tell you that your savings account balance is not enough to have a waiver and that she'd rather not tell you how much it should be because SHE IS SURE THAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT! And then, she'll say something like, IF YOU INSIST, MA'AM, IT'S PHP600,000. This bank totally sucks! And, what's with the VIP land that's always empty when there are a lot of people who have jobs to go to and things to do who are waiting in line? I mean, do their rich VIP's even do their own banking?
